Basic policy

PatTask does not transmit or store your tasks, memos, events, photos or files on our servers. We use no account registration, no advertising SDK, no behavioral analytics and no third-party tracking.

Apple Reminders

With your permission, PatTask reads and writes reminder titles, notes, lists, priorities, start dates, due dates, alerts, repeat rules, locations, URLs and completion state through Apple's EventKit. These are stored and synced by Apple Reminders according to your Apple Account settings, and are not sent to our servers.

Calendar

If you choose to grant permission, PatTask displays events on the dates you select and stores the information linking them to tasks. PatTask does not create, change or delete events unless you explicitly choose to. It does not copy tasks into events automatically.

Memos and projects

A memo's text, its attachments (photos, videos, scans, handwriting, recordings, files), its categories, folders and tags, and a project's name, purpose, period and memberships are stored on your device and in PatTask's own iCloud. They are not sent to our servers.

When you give a line in a memo a date, PatTask creates an Apple Reminders task holding only that line's text, its dates and its alert. The body and attachments are not written into Reminders. Remove the date and that task is deleted; the line remains. A memo as a whole is never given a date.

Text recognition on photos, scans and handwriting runs on your device. The recognized text is stored on the device and in PatTask's own iCloud so that memo search can find it. Transcription of recordings uses the same Apple speech recognition as voice input.

A memo's title and text are added to the device's on-device search index so you can open it from Spotlight. That index does not leave the device.

Deleted memos remain in the Trash for 30 days and are then permanently deleted, along with their text and attachments in iCloud. Deleting a project does not delete the tasks, events or memos linked to it.

PatTask's own iCloud

Anything that cannot be stored in Apple Reminders is kept on your device and in a private CloudKit database belonging to your own Apple Account. Specifically:

• Photos, files and recordings (attached to a task, and to an individual update)
• Memo text and attachments (photos, videos, scans, handwriting, recordings, files), categories, folders and tags
• Projects and their memberships
• Updates (dated notes you add)
• In-progress and on-hold marks, hold reasons and follow-up dates
• Subtask relationships, related events, work blocks placed on the timeline
• Focus records, urgent alarms, launcher destinations
• Settings, and the date-and-time notifications PatTask itself schedules

Smaller items among these may be placed in the device's and iCloud's key-value store. Across your devices, changes and deletions are reconciled per item by modification time. We have no server or console of our own through which we could view any of this.

Notifications and Live Activities

If you grant permission and choose to receive notifications from PatTask, it schedules local notifications on your device matching the alerts set in Apple Reminders. Apple Reminders' own notifications are not changed. Location-based alerts remain the responsibility of Apple Reminders. The end of a focus session or a break is also announced by a local notification, and the running task name, time remaining and state are shown in a Live Activity. No push notification server of ours is involved.

Voice input and recording

“Dictate” turns what you say into text using Apple's speech recognition. Depending on your device, this may be processed on the device or on Apple's servers; either way, Apple's privacy policy applies. Nothing is sent to our servers, and the audio used for recognition is not retained.

“Record” is a separate feature. From the add screen, from the update field of a task's details, and from a memo, you can record your voice and attach it. The audio becomes an m4a file, handled like a photo or file, stored on your device and in PatTask's own iCloud. Recordings from the add screen and in memos also get a transcript; recordings in the update field are not transcribed. Nothing is sent to our servers, and you can delete a recording as you would any other attachment.

Both require microphone permission. “Dictate” and transcription also require speech recognition permission. If you don't use them, neither permission is needed.

Device permissions

• Reminders: to show, add, edit and complete tasks.
• Calendar: to show events and link them to tasks. Optional.
• Notifications: to receive task notifications from PatTask, and to announce the end of a focus session or break. Optional.
• Camera, Photos, Files: to attach what you choose to a task or a memo, and to scan documents.
• Microphone: to write by voice and to record audio. Optional.
• Speech recognition: to turn speech into text and to transcribe recordings. Optional.

Offline

Tasks and attachments already saved on your device work offline. Changes and attachment uploads to iCloud are retried through Apple's mechanisms once your connection returns. In Settings you can choose which connection carries attachment files; videos are limited to Wi-Fi by default.

Purchases and the free trial

Purchases are handled by the App Store. PatTask does not receive or store your payment method, card number or Apple Account information. Whether you have purchased is determined solely by checking the purchase information Apple provides to your device.

As the starting point of the free trial, a single date is stored in your device's keychain and in your own iCloud key-value store. Only the date is stored — no name, no email address, no device identifier. It is not sent to our servers.

This date remains on the device even if you delete the app, so that the trial is counted correctly if you reinstall. “Delete all PatTask data” in Settings does not delete this date, because doing so would make the trial impossible to determine.

Deleting your data

Tasks can be deleted from Apple Reminders or from PatTask's task actions. “Delete all PatTask data” in Settings deletes the information PatTask holds on your device and in iCloud — in-progress and on-hold marks, hold reasons and follow-up dates, subtask relationships, related events, work blocks, updates, focus records, attachments, memos and their attachments, categories and folders, projects and their links, urgent alarms and launcher destinations — and does not delete your Apple Reminders tasks.

Because this cannot be undone, confirmation has two stages, and the second cannot be executed until twenty seconds have passed. If the attachments in iCloud cannot be deleted, nothing is deleted and you are told so. If the process stops partway, what was deleted is named explicitly. A partial result is never treated as success.

Deleting the app leaves your Apple Reminders tasks on Apple's side.
